MYOPIA AND HYPERMETROPIA CORRECTION WITH LASER
The first application of Laser for the correction of Myopia was performed in 1987 in U.S.A.,while for Hypermetropia the application of Laser began much more later.
Today the correction of Myopia, Hypermetropia and Astigmatism are performed by applying at line of preference the techniques: Lasik, Prk and Lasek.
The choice of the proper technique rests within the crisis of doctor which is based on the collected data during the preoperative examination of the patient.
In all methods is used the same Laser and the postoperative results are precisely the same at the end of the 1st month.
The applied Laser in refractive surgery is named Excimer Laser and has wavelength 193nm.
It is harmless to the human tissue concerning the cell mitoses provocation.
HOW THE LASER WORKS
When the Laser beam hits the Cornea, it splits the bonds that retains the corneal molecules.
The destruction of bonds, it releases the keratocite molecules leading in Corneal tissue removal which is directly related to the amount of the corrected refractive error.
