A.K. are the initials of Astigmatic Keratotomy.
This method is applied in combination with Cataract surgery to correct the co-existed Astigmatism and in Corneal Transplantation which are complicated by high amounts of postoperative Astigmatism.
It is a simple method with prompt results which is performed under topical anaesthesia.
The Astigmatism is corrected by applying one or two relaxing arcade incisions on the steepest meridian of the Cornea.
